Chateau Citran Haut Medoc 2006

Wine Region:

Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux

Grape Variety:

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot

Tasting Notes:

This wine blends the rich texture and firm tannins of Cabernet with the softer tannins and long, complex finish of Merlot to create a medium bodied wine. Aromas of spice and ripe berry from the Cabernet merge with the well-ripened blackberry fruit of the Merlot. The wine is characterized by spice and cherry on the palate.

Serving Hints:

This wine would be a good match for a wide range of foods, particularly tomato-based dishes, poultry, grilled meats, even beef brisket.

Production Notes:

The Citran vineyards are divided into two. One plot is adjacent to the Margaux appellation and is very near to the chateau. The other is close to the town of Avensan, at the heart of the Haut-Medoc appellation. Cabernet Sauvignon covers 58% of the 90 hectares, and Merlot 42%, however, there is work being done for an expansion of Cabernet Sauvignon planting in the Medoc gravel which is said to be ideal for the Cabernet vines.
