Argentina – Mendoza
- Bodega Chakana
- Bodega Sottano
- Elsa Bianchi
Wine Region:
Mendoza, Argentina
Grape Variety:
100% Malbec
Tasting Notes:
The beauty of the Malbec in Argentina is its ability to combine a rich, weighty mouth feel with a soft silkiness normally associated with lighter wines. The classic Malbec aromas of ripe plum and violets are evident in the nose, with hints of vanilla. Elsa Malbec takes the promise of the nose through to the palate, with pleasing fruit that mimics the aroma. The soft, supple palate leads to a lingering finish. It has attractive and bright colours. An everyday and every occasion wine!
Serving Hints:
Elsa Malbec is the perfect accompaniment to a wide range of foods such as salmon or other flavourful fish, pork and beef.
Production Notes:
Valentin Bianchi is a 3rd generation family winery owned and operated by the Bianchi family. The grapes for this single-vineyard wine come from Valentin Bianchi’s Doña Elsa Estate, situated in Rama Caida, San Rafael, Mendoza, around 760 meters above sea level. One of the coolest areas in San Rafael, the soil in Rama Caida is of sandy calcareous composition and alluvial origins. The grapes are hand-picked and twice sorted by hand, crushed, fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks and inoculated with selected yeasts. There is minimal French oak aging in an effort to keep fruit fresh, lively and prominent, with a further one month’s aging in the bottle.

Cono Sur Vineyards and Winery was founded in 1993 with the intent of producing premium, innovative wines that convey the spirit of the New World. Cono Sur was born around one of the oldest Pinot Noir Vineyards in Chile and aim to produce the best Pinot Noir there. Unique, expressive and proud of it’s New World roots, while vinified according to Burgundian tradition. The Casablanca Valley’s cold weather is influenced by the Pacific Ocean and it’s cold Humbolt current, resulting in a relatively delayed harvest.

This wine is great with burgers, grilled meats, beef and pasta, as well as hearty stews and barbequed poultry.

The Cono Sur wines feature an image of a bicycle on the label, representing the company’s commitment to the environment while making top quality wines. This range represents a particular pride and joy of the company. Often in the vineyard bicycles can be seen resting against walls or propped up at the end of the rows, it’s just another example of how the workers travel to/from and around the vineyards, in order to protect the land they work on.
