Akashi 'White Oak' Single Malt Whisky

Single malt Japanese whisky from the Akashi range, produced by White Oak in Hyogo, just west of Kobe. This non-age-statement release ought to prove rather interesting for whisky adventurers looking to try something new.

Weak fruit, malt, spice, vanilla, dried apricots and a candy sweetness. It comes across young and flat, but at least there’s no off notes. Spice, malt, watery toffee, fruit and a touch of an herbal character. I don’t know if this is just young or uses a lot of barrels that are way past their prime, but it comes through light, flat and uninteresting.
