The grapes for this wine come from a single vineyard, MacAllister Vineyard, near the ridge of the Mayacamas Range on the Sonoma side of Mt. Veeder. This Moon Mountain District appellation is at 1850 feet. This is a spectacular sloping site with multiple exposures and well-drained, low fertility soil. After picking, hand-harvested fruit was fermented with utmost care and the resulting wine was aged 14 months in 33% new French Oak 67% used oak (90% French, 10% American).
Nose: Aromas hinting of blueberries, violets, orange blossom and hint of fresh thyme add to the enjoyment.
Palate: This wine has a very balanced mouthfeel, with lively fruit and spice from entry to finish.
Finish: It has a medium body, and a restrained tannin structure – but one that is more than sufficient to allow for at least another 5-7 years of graceful aging.
Food Pairing: Serve slightly chilled with fowl (turkey, chicken), pork and a variety of dishes with fruit sauces or glazes.
