Salvestrin 'Dr. Crane Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
It began when Italian immigrants John and Emma Salvestrin fell in love with St. Helena while visiting friends in the early 1920s. In 1932 they purchased a portion of the historic Crane Ranch, including the Victorian home of Dr. Crane. With the repeal of prohibition in 1933, they started selling grapes as the wine industry began to grown again.
Grape Varietals: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc
Wine Region: St. Helena, Napa Valley, California
Tasting Notes: The flagship 2018 Dr. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromatics of ripe black cherry, dried orange peel, and Mediterranean herbs. Silky upon entry, this wine is full-bodied and broad with mouth coating polished tannins. Showing grace and power, the winemaking style is ripe yet restrained – a bottle to enjoy now with proper decanting, but also one that will age for decades. The finish is persistent, with notes of dark chocolate and dried thyme lingering long after the last sip.
Food Pairing: Dark chocolate bars studded with dried cherry and blueberry fruit.
